French lunch
Blue eyes and I have an idea to blog about food and some of the best meals we've had on this trip but we haven't had much time to do it. Food is an all important thing to Malaysians since we love to eat - there's a saying, fellowship is formed at the dining table ;) So I'm gonna try to start blogging on meals, one at a time and hopefully share what we've enjoyed most :)
Let's start from the very beginning. We didn't have many meals while in Paris. This is partly due to blue eyes' crazy schedule at competition and so most of time we just packed something simple. Also, it's quite boring to eat alone, at least not for 10 consecutive days so I usually skip meals when I'm on my own. Saves a bit of cash also (and waistline too!!), hehe ...
In Paris, we had a lot of bread, and I mean A LOT! For a non-bread eater like me, it felt heavy. I can't differentiate one bread after another (what? how could you? You're in Paris!!) cos' they tasted the same to me after a while (more gasps!). French likes sweet desserts. I'm not a dessert person but friends have told me that I should try so I did, by buying a box of (expensive) macaroons while I was in Montmartre. They were good but I don't think I'm in love with it :)
My best meal in Paris was at a little French cafe in Montmartre. I had a full course lunch as the weather was really cold outside and it's been gloomy all day. I felt I needed a cheer so I ordered onion soup as appertiser, chicken with rice as main course and a caramel pudding for dessert. With French music playing in the background, I took my time and enjoyed the meal. They tasted better than expected, especially the caramel pudding.
And of course, the most warming meal we had is with Shwu and her family. She moved to Paris 4 years ago with Bernard and they have since started a family. Little Gustave is the latest addition to the family :) We visited her at her home and we had baked chicken with vegetables and a choc cake for dessert. A jolly good time of catching up!
